A wiki platform for your obsessions, and a place to read everyone else's.

• Built on the open web. Your wiki lives on your own account and outlives Lichen. Take it to any other AT Proto app.
• Bring people in. Invite whoever you want, and edit the same note at the same time, cursors included.
• Just markdown. [[Wikilinks]] and backlinks, and any wiki downloads as an Obsidian vault.

Some features #

• Every edit is a diff on its author's own account, so the history belongs to the people who wrote it.
• Public or private, with admin / contributor / viewer roles.
• Obsidian round-trip: import a vault from a zip, export a wiki back as one.
• Split-pane live preview, drag-and-drop images, tags, and backlinks.
• Wrote the same subject in another language? Link the two wikis and a switcher appears in the sidebar.
• Self-hostable, fully independent — SELF-HOSTING.md.

Markdown #

A vault import lists everything it skipped, and a Base's data survives it: the properties it queries live in each note's frontmatter, which imports intact.

Code: AGPL-3.0, except packages/client/, which is MIT so plugins and third-party clients can bundle it.

Wiki content: contributions on lichen.wiki are CC BY-SA 4.0 by default. Contributors keep their copyright and grant reuse rights under that license. Private wikis are covered by it too: access is just restricted to members.
