# cloudflare JAX colo failing R2 custom-domain fetches for plyr.fm media

**impact:** users routed to the JAX (Jacksonville, FL) colo cannot load audio or cover art — player shows `NaN:NaN` duration, images fail. all other colos healthy.

## symptom

user report: track page/embed loads (title, artist), but audio never loads (`NaN:NaN`) and cover art is missing. reproduced across firefox, chrome, and safari on the same machine — i.e. below the browser.

user devtools showed the smoking gun:

- `GET https://images.plyr.fm/images/<id>.jpg` → **HTTP 500**
- `server: cloudflare`, `cf-cache-status: BYPASS`, `content-type: text/html`, 0 B body
- `cf-ray: a31cbef0bed07221-JAX`

not a bot challenge (would be a 403/challenge page; same-zone page assets load fine).

## evidence

zone analytics (GraphQL `httpRequestsAdaptiveGroups`, zone `plyr.fm` / `2bfcb9ffe7847604e9febbb62d9649a3`):

- last 6h, `edgeResponseStatus >= 500` on `audio.plyr.fm` + `images.plyr.fm`:
  - `images.plyr.fm`: 17× 500, 14× 502 — **all coloCode JAX**
  - `audio.plyr.fm`: 7× 500 — **all coloCode JAX**
  - zero 5xx from any other colo
- 23h time series at JAX for those hosts: **63 requests, 100% 5xx, 0 successes**, first bucket 17:00Z (no JAX media traffic before that, so onset is "at or before" 17:00Z)

healthy-path verification from another colo (same URLs):

- `Range: bytes=0-1` on the wav → 206, `access-control-allow-origin: *`, correct `content-range`
- cover art + thumbnail → 200, `cf-cache-status: HIT`

ruled out:

- origin/R2: other colos serve the same objects fine
- our config: no zone changes; errors are colo-scoped
- user machine/DNS: DNS resolves normal dual-stack cloudflare IPs; no DNSSEC on zone; failure followed the colo, not the client
- cloudflare status page: no incident, no JAX maintenance scheduled or in progress, JAX component "operational"

## affected surface

`audio.plyr.fm` and `images.plyr.fm` — R2 custom domains behind the plyr.fm zone. `api.plyr.fm` (fly.io, separate path) unaffected, which is why pages render but media fails.
