In a mixed-ratio gallery the feed frames every slide at the narrowest ratio, floored at 9:16, and crops each photo to fill it. A vertical XPan (24:65) is narrower than the floor, so it lost its top and bottom. Such a photo is now contained in the frame with no placeholder fill beside it, as the detail view already shows it.
