Tasks #
The breakdown of PLAN.md into 51 tasks, updated 2026-10-09 after the QA review (test-plan.md, adversarial-review.md). GitLab is the source of truth for status;
this file is the reference for scope, tests and acceptance. Ids (P3-2) match the issue titles and the milestones (Phase N). Do one phase at a time.
Definition of done: every acceptance box must link to evidence (a CI pipeline, report or screenshot). A box ticked without a link does not count. A task with a High test tier also needs its seeded-failure check shown (see test-plan.md).
Renamed: P7-4 is now P6-8 (the guard against weakened verify lines must exist before the first AI-written script).

Phase 0: Housekeeping #
Half a day. Decide the large-file question, add license and notice, curate the reference files, set up the TypeScript skeleton and CI.
Done when: npm test passes in CI on an empty skeleton, and a deliberately failing test turns the pipeline red.
P0-1: Decide the large-file question (D8): the two BITE zips are 84 MB in git history #
The two zips are already in history, so every clone is 160 MB. Choose: Git LFS (needs LFS enabled on this GitLab), rewrite history to remove them and keep them in an artifact store (only two clones exist), or leave them. Measure a fresh clone size before and after.
Test tier: Medium (impact low, but a history rewrite breaks existing clones and is hard to undo)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P0-1.a[REV] The decision row D8 states the choice, the date, and the consequence for existing clones (oracle: PLAN.md D8 text; fails if: row left "open")P0-1.b[INT]git cloneof the repo into a fresh dir;du -shrecorded before and after the change (oracle: measured sizes; fails if: size unchanged after "reduce")P0-1.c[INT] Before any history rewrite, both zips exist in an off-repo location with matching checksums; D8 carries an explicit yes from Alex (not a default) (oracle: sha256 of the copies; fails if: rewrite done without a copy)
Depends on: nothing. Labels: docs, needs-alex. See: docs/decisions.md D8.
P0-2: Add LICENSE (Apache 2.0) and NOTICE crediting Google's BITE #
BITE is Apache 2.0 (COPYING in the archive). Add the license text and a NOTICE that credits the BITE project for derived ideas and any copied code, and keeps its copyright line.
Test tier: Low (reversible, no runtime effect)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P0-2.a REV, compare
LICENSEbyte-for-byte with BITE'sCOPYING(a checksum), oracle = the original file; falsified by an edited license.
Depends on: nothing. Labels: docs. See: PLAN.md section 5.
P0-3: Curate the reference folder from the BITE archive (about 10 files, under 1 MB) #
Copy, unmodified, only the files the design draws on, each with a header comment noting its original path: codegenerator.js, playbackmanager.js, bothelper.js, actionshelper.js, locatorsupdater.js, getactioninfo.js, recordmanager.js, eventsmanager.js, and the ElementDescriptor under common/. Unpack the archive outside the repo (/tmp), never into the checkout.
Test tier: Low (copies of files; no runtime effect)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P0-3.a STA, a script lists
reference/files and checks size under 1 MB and that each has an Apache header and a source-path comment; oracle = the task text.
Depends on: P0-2, P0-1. Labels: docs. See: PLAN.md section 2.
P0-4: TypeScript project skeleton: package.json, tsconfig, esbuild, vitest #
Node 22 and TypeScript, esbuild for bundling the extension and the runner, vitest for tests, no UI framework. One npm test that type-checks and runs tests. Folders per PLAN.md section 5 (extension/ runner/ bridge/ report/ scripts/ fixtures/), each with a placeholder module and one passing test.
Test tier: Low (standard tooling, reversible)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P0-4.a[STA]tsc --noEmiton a file with a deliberate type error exits non-zero (oracle: exit code; fails if: a config that ignores errors)P0-4.b[ENV]npm ci && npm test && npm run buildon a clean checkout (new clone) (oracle: exit codes; fails if: a missing lockfile or global dependency)
Depends on: P0-3. Labels: infra. See: PLAN.md section 5, decisions D3.
P0-5: GitLab CI: type check and unit tests on every push #
.gitlab-ci.yml on the existing runner (image: node:22): npm ci, tsc --noEmit, vitest run. The mallbucks-stores repo had no CI and 53 tests rotted unnoticed, so this must exist before any other code.
Test tier: Medium (a CI that cannot fail gives false confidence; the stores repo is the precedent)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P0-5.a[INT] Pipeline runs on push and is green on the skeleton (oracle: GitLab pipeline status; fails if: job skipped byrules)P0-5.b[INT] Push a commit with a failing test: pipeline red; revert: green (oracle: GitLab pipeline status; fails if:allow_failure: trueor tests not invoked)P0-5.c[REV] The red pipeline from P0-5.b is kept as a link on the issue (not reverted away); every acceptance box on every task needs a linked pipeline, report or screenshot (oracle: issue text; fails if: box ticked with no link)
Depends on: P0-4. Labels: infra. See: mallbucks-stores#19 for the reason.
P0-6: Secret-scan job in CI #
Accounts, tokens and a signed-in profile make an accidental commit expensive. Add a scan to CI for app passwords, glpat- style tokens and private keys, running on every push.
Test tier: Medium (accounts, tokens and a signed-in profile make an accidental commit expensive; cheap to prevent)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P0-6.a[STA] A commit containing a fake Bluesky app password, aglpat-style token and a PEM key fails the scan job (oracle: job status; fails if: job green on any of the three)P0-6.b[STA] A normal commit (docs, scripts) passes; the scan runs on every push, not only merge requests (oracle: pipeline; fails if: scan skipped on push)
Depends on: P0-5. Labels: infra, security. See: test-plan.md T-P0-6; review (test plan section 0).
P0-7: Make design/*.md authoritative; fix drift between PLAN and TASKS #
PLAN.md 4.1 shows wait text-changes:".balance" timeout:5s, which does not match script-format.md; P6-2's journey ids differ between PLAN and TASKS; PLAN's Phase 2 checklist omits the CI self-check job. (2026-10-09: the capacity and dates criterion was dropped by Alex: staffing and availability are not part of the technical plan.)
Test tier: Low (documentation only, reversible)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P0-7.a[REV] A line in PLAN.md states thatdesign/*.mdwins; the 4.1 example equals the one inscript-format.md; the journey ids and the Phase 2 checklist match TASKS.md (oracle: diff of the examples; grep of ids; fails if: the example still differs)
Depends on: nothing. Labels: docs. See: adversarial-review F-19, F-20.
Phase 1: Walking skeleton #
1 to 2 days. Prove the hardest technical risk first: an MV3 extension and a local bridge that stay connected, with click and verify working end to end.
Done when: aite run fixtures/hello.aite clicks a button on the fixture page and reports a pass with a screenshot.
P1-1: MV3 extension shell that loads in current Chrome #
extension/manifest.json (manifest_version 3), a service worker, a content script, and a status badge. Host permissions limited to the origins in aite.config.json allow. No eval, no remote code.
Test tier: Medium (Chrome's loader is strict; failure here blocks the project but is cheap to see)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-1.a[INT] Load unpacked inchrome://extensionson balrog and on a laptop: zero errors; manifest has no permissions beyond the listed ones (oracle: the page's error list and a manifest permission allowlist test; fails if: an extra<all_urls>permission)P1-1.b[MAN] Badge shows disconnected then connected when a bridge is started and stopped (oracle: a person looking; fails if: badge stuck)
Depends on: P0-4. Labels: extension. See: design/protocol.md.
P1-2: Bridge websocket server, token, handshake, keep-alive and reconnect #
Implement the handshake and delivery rules in docs/design/protocol.md: loopback only, per-run token, hello/welcome, ping every 15 s, reconnect with backoff, chrome.alarms backup, at-most-once for actions. This is the biggest technical risk, so prove it before more is built.
Test tier: High (impact = the architecture; likelihood high, MV3 worker lifetime is subtle; cheap to learn early but expensive if found late)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-2.a[INT] Wrong token -> connection closed with code, extension shows error (oracle: protocol.md "closes any connection with a wrong token"; fails if: a bridge that accepts any token)P1-2.b[INT] Kill the bridge, restart it -> extension reconnects within 10 s and sendshellowithresume(oracle: protocol.md backoff list; timer; fails if: no reconnect, or reconnect after 60 s)P1-2.c[UNI]actrequest without a response after reconnect -> step failsconnection-lost; request never re-sent (spy counts sends = 1) (oracle: protocol.md delivery rules; fails if: a bridge that re-sends the click)P1-2.d[PRP] Random interleavings of ping, request, disconnect: no request gets two responses, none is lost withoutconnection-lost(oracle: invariant: exactly one response or oneconnection-lostper id; fails if: duplicate or silent loss)P1-2.e[E2E] Real Chrome, idle connection 5 minutes, then a command -> still connected, no reconnect logged. Repeat 5 times. (oracle: the extension's own reconnect counter = 0; fails if: worker stopped (counter > 0))P1-2.f[PRP] Messages with oversize, malformed JSON, unknowncmd, a web page posting to the extension: ignored or rejected, no crash (oracle: protocol.md security section; fails if: an exception that stops the worker)
Depends on: P1-1. Labels: bridge, extension. See: design/protocol.md.
P1-3: click and verify text, end to end, against fixtures/hello.html #
A first fixture page and the two simplest commands wired from aite run through the bridge to the content script and back. Targets: text: and role:+name: only.
Test tier: Medium (first end-to-end path; wrong here is cheap to find)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-3.a[E2E]hello.aiteclicks the button, verifies "Hello, world" (oracle: fixture HTML (human readable); fails if: a click that does nothing but verify reads old text)P1-3.b[FUN] Wrong expected text -> failuremismatchwith the found text (oracle: script-format.md verify rules; fails if: a verify that passes on a substring)
Depends on: P1-2. Labels: extension, runner. See: design/script-format.md.
P1-4: Screenshot capture, saved into the run folder #
The runner takes a screenshot after every step that ran (passed or failed) and writes it to results/<run>/shots/NNN-MM.png (step number, commands run). It is taken over Chrome's debugging protocol on a private pipe, not by the extension: captureVisibleTab needs <all_urls> or activeTab (found by running it), which would remove the extension's allow-list guarantee. A picture that cannot be taken is a warning, never a failure.
Test tier: Low (additive, reversible)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P1-4.a E2E, run produces a non-empty PNG that decodes and has the fixture's expected dimensions; falsified by a blank/black image (assert a pixel count of non-background colors above a threshold).
Depends on: P1-3. Labels: extension, runner. See: design/protocol.md.
P1-5: Spike: user activation, pop-ups, downloads and React controlled inputs #
Content-script events are synthetic and carry no user activation, so Chrome may block the wallet pay pop-up and a download, and React controlled inputs may ignore a plain value write. Prove what works on fixtures before Phase 2 and decide whether trusted input (chrome.debugger Input.dispatch* or a CDP side channel) is needed, with its permission cost.
Test tier: High (if synthetic events cannot open the pay pop-up or start a download, Phase 6 cannot pass; found late it costs five phases)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-5.a[E2E] Fixture: a button whose handler callswindow.open. Click it with the planned mechanism -> a second window opens (tab count +1) (oracle:tabscommand; fails if: popup blocked (count unchanged))P1-5.b[E2E] Fixture: a link that triggers a download -> a file appears in the profile's download folder with the right name and size (oracle: filesystem; fails if: no file)P1-5.c[E2E] Fixture: a React controlled input;typeleaves the component's state equal to the typed text (an on-page echo shows it) (oracle: page echo; fails if: state unchanged (plain value write ignored))P1-5.d[REV] A note indecisions.md(D11) states the chosen mechanism (plain events /chrome.debugger/ CDP side channel), why, and its permission cost (oracle: the note; fails if: missing or unreasoned)
Depends on: P1-3. Labels: extension, spike. See: adversarial-review F-01; test-plan.md T-P1-5.
P1-6: Spike: load the extension into a persistent profile on balrog and deliver the token #
Branded Google Chrome may no longer honour --load-extension, and an MV3 extension cannot read an arbitrary local file, so the Phase 5 launcher may be infeasible as written. Find a route that works on balrog and pin a Chrome flavour.
Test tier: High (Phase 5's launcher may be impossible on the configured Chrome)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-6.a[E2E] On balrog, with the pinned Chrome flavour, start a persistent profile that has the extension loaded ->chrome://extensionslists it enabled (oracle: page, or the service worker URL present; fails if: extension missing)P1-6.b[E2E] The extension obtains the per-run token by the chosen route and connects; a second run with a different token connects with the new one (oracle: bridge log; fails if: stale token accepted)P1-6.c[REV]decisions.mdD12 names the Chrome flavour and version pinned (Chrome for Testing, Chromium or branded), the load method and the token route, with their trade-offs (oracle: the note; fails if: missing)
Depends on: P1-1. Labels: extension, spike, infra. See: adversarial-review F-02; protocol.md; test-plan.md T-P1-6.
P1-7: Bridge soak test (one hour) #
Prove the connection stays up over a realistic hour: a command every 2 minutes plus 10 minute idle gaps.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P1-7.a[E2E] One hour: a command every 2 minutes plus idle gaps of 10 minutes -> zero failed commands, reconnect counter reported (oracle: counters in run.json; fails if: any failure)
Depends on: P1-2. Labels: bridge, tests. See: test-plan.md T-P1-7.
Phase 2: The script language #
2 days. Parser with good errors, step engine, the full v1 command set, tests against fixture pages.
Done when: The whole v1 command set passes on fixtures, and a malformed script gives a one-line error that points at its line.
P2-1: Parser for the script format, with line-numbered errors #
Implement the grammar in docs/design/script-format.md, including the parser error codes E001 to E005 with the exact message shapes (E006 and E007 are raised by the runner, both owned by P2-2; their message shapes are the ones in the table). Pure function: text in, tree or error out.
Test tier: Medium (pure logic; a misread spec is shared-author risk)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-1.a[STA] Strict types on the AST (oracle: tsc; fails if:anycreeping in)P2-1.b[UNI] 30+ table cases: every valid example in script-format.md parses to the documented tree (oracle: the spec's own examples (quoted); fails if: a parser that accepts the example differently)P2-1.c[PRP] Random generated scripts: parse -> print -> parse is identical; random garbage never throws, only returns E-codes (oracle: round trip and totality; fails if: an uncaught exception)P2-1.d[REV] A person other than the author reads the spec'sverifyNotandtypesemantics and says what they expect (oracle: their statement vs the table; fails if: a different expectation)P2-1.e[UNI] Each of E001 to E005 appears with the exact message shape and the right line number (oracle: the table in script-format.md; fails if: wrong line (off by one))P2-1.f[REV] The 30-case table is written or reviewed by someone other than the parser's author, fromscript-format.mdalone (oracle: the reviewer's sign-off in the issue; fails if: author-only table)
Depends on: P0-4. Labels: runner. See: design/script-format.md.
P2-2: Step engine and a minimal run.json writer #
Run steps in order, per-command timeouts, status per step (passed, passed-after-retry, failed, skipped), retry counting, ${var} interpolation, capture and set.
Test tier: High (it decides pass/fail; a false pass here silently invalidates every later result)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-2.a[UNI] Command fails -> later stepsskipped, testfailed; first command passes after one retry -> steppassed-after-retry, retries=1 (oracle: the TASKS.md acceptance text; fails if: a step markedpassedafter a retry)P2-2.b[UNI] A step with zero commands, or a test with zeroverifycommands -> warning "no assertion" in run.json (oracle: principle 5 (never fake a pass); fails if: a green test that checks nothing)P2-2.c[PRP] Random sequences of command outcomes: the test status ispassediff every command passed (possibly after retry) (oracle: invariant; fails if: any other combination)P2-2.d[UNI]${var}used before set -> E007 before any command runs (oracle: script-format.md E007; fails if: the run starts then fails halfway)P2-2.e[UNI]sleepproduces a warning; the summary counts it (oracle: script-format.md timing rules; fails if: silent sleep)P2-2.f[FUN]needs session nobodywith a config that has no such profile -> E006 with the exact message shape and the right line, no command runs (oracle: script-format.md E006; fails if: the run starts, or the message names a different line)
Depends on: P2-1, P1-3. Labels: runner. See: design/data-formats.md.
P2-3: Implement the remaining v1 commands in the extension #
type, press, select, check/uncheck, doubleClick, drag, goto, wait (all forms), switchTab/closeTab, capture, verify (all forms, including number:changed-by), call, run. (Screenshots are done: P1-4. Trusted input: D11.) Honour the timing and honesty rules.
Test tier: High (verify/wait semantics and clicking the wrong element are the false-pass/false-act sources)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-3.a[FUN]clickon a hidden / disabled / off-screen button ->not-visible/not-enabled, nothing clicked (oracle: script-format.md click rules; fails if: click fires anyway)P2-3.b[FUN]typereplaces (not appends) and firesinputandchange(page counter increments) (oracle: spec table; page JS counter; fails if: no events)P2-3.c[FUN]verify textpasses only on equal text (trimmed, case-sensitive; the loose form is explicit, see P2-5); "1 MALLBUCKS" does not match "11 MALLBUCKS" (oracle: spec; fails if: substring match)P2-3.d[FUN]verifytimes out ->timeout, never passes by default;verifyNotpasses only if the condition is absent for the whole timeout (an element that appears at 80 percent of the timeout fails it) (oracle: spec timing rules; fails if: pass on first miss)P2-3.e[FUN] Two matching elements withoutindex->ambiguouswith candidates (oracle: spec targets; fails if: picks the first)P2-3.f[FUN]wait ... gone,text-changes,url,network-idleeach pass and each time out correctly (oracle: spec wait forms; fails if: immediate pass)P2-3.g[FUN]select,check/uncheck,press,drag,doubleClickperform the documented effect on the fixture (oracle: fixture state; fails if: no effect)P2-3.h[FUN]capturethenverify number:changed-by from:NAME equals:-1on a counter that goes 5 -> 4 passes and 5 -> 5 fails (oracle: spec; fails if: pass when unchanged)P2-3.i[INT] Every failurereasonin protocol.md is producible by some fixture; none isinternalin normal use (oracle: protocol.md; fails if: an unmapped error)P2-3.j[INT]switchTab/closeTabwith a pop-up fixture; commands aftercloseTabact on the previous tab (oracle: spec; fails if: acts on the closed tab)P2-3.k[REV]callloads onlyscripts/checks/NAME.ts; a path with..or an absolute path is refused (oracle: spec; unit test; fails if: path traversal)P2-3.l[FUN]verify text:"1 MALLBUCKS"fails on "1 Mallbucks" (exact, case-sensitive); the loose form passes (oracle: spec after P2-5; fails if: case-insensitive pass)
Depends on: P2-2. Labels: extension, runner. See: design/script-format.md.
P2-4: Fixture pages for every command, and a CI self-check job #
Small static pages in fixtures/ covering each command, including a pop-up window and a slow-loading element. A CI job loads the extension in Chrome (Playwright as test tooling only) and runs the fixture scripts, so a broken extension build is caught before it reaches balrog.
Test tier: Medium (this is the net under everything; it must itself be able to fail)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-4.a[E2E] Self-check job loads the extension (Playwright persistent context) and runs every fixture script -> all pass (oracle: job status; fails if: extension not actually loaded (assert the service worker URL is present))P2-4.b[ENV] Deliberately break the extension (remove a handler) -> job fails (oracle: job status; fails if: job still green)P2-4.c[NDT] Run each fixture script 20 times -> pass rate 100 percent; any flake is a bug in the tool (oracle: counted results; fails if: one flaky pass/fail)P2-4.d[INT] If Playwright cannot load the extension on the runner, the job fails loudly (not skipped) and the plan's fallback is a manual run, recorded (oracle: job log; fails if: silent skip)
Depends on: P2-3. Labels: infra, tests. See: PLAN.md section 8.
P2-5: Reconcile the command set, permissions and journeys; make verify exact #
The journeys need checks the grammar lacks: a link's href, a downloaded file's name and size. network-idle needs permissions the P1-1 whitelist forbids. Text verify is case-insensitive, so brand-casing regressions pass.
Test tier: Medium (acceptance for P6-2 and P6-3 needs checks the grammar lacks)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-5.a[UNI]verify TARGET attr:href equals:"https://..."andattr:... contains:parse and run on a fixture link (oracle: fixture; fails if: missing form)P2-5.b[FUN]verify download name:"x.zip" size-min:1000passes for the P1-5 download fixture and fails for a wrong name (oracle: fixture; fails if: no check)P2-5.c[FUN]verify text:"1 MALLBUCKS"does NOT match "1 Mallbucks"; the loose form (text-i:ortext~i:) does (oracle: spec; fails if: case-insensitive pass)P2-5.d[STA] The manifest permission allowlist test equals the permissions the chosen mechanisms need;network-idleeither works with them or is cut from v1 (oracle: CI test; fails if: extra or missing permission)
Open questions found in the P0-7 review, settled in decisions.md D14 (all four: (1) target text: stays loose, (2) text-i:/text~i: stay, (3) network-idle stays, (4) pre-state reserved in protocol.md) and then write into script-format.md: (1) does the text: target in click/type stay case-insensitive while only verify text: becomes exact; (2) the spelling and meaning of the loose form (text-i: vs text~i:; text~: already means contains); (3) whether network-idle stays in v1 (P2-3.f requires it, this task may cut it; if cut, remove P2-3.f); (4) add pre-state (P5-7) to the reasons in protocol.md if it is kept.
Depends on: P2-1, P1-5. Labels: runner, extension. See: adversarial-review F-09, F-17; test-plan.md T-P2-5.
P2-6: Layered failure diagnosis: look down the stack before blaming the page #
Added 2026-10-10 at Alex's request. A failed command names the layer where the script noticed (usually the page). The report must instead walk down through the page's code, the browser's rules, HTTP,
name resolution, TLS, TCP, the network path, the link and the test machine itself, and say which is the lowest layer showing a fault that could explain the symptom. Design: design/failure-diagnosis.md.
Test tier: High (a wrong diagnosis sends a person to fix the wrong thing, or hides a real outage behind "the locator is out of date")
Acceptance:
Tests:
P2-6.a[UNI] The rule table, driven by recorded observations: every rule infailure-diagnosis.mdhas a case that selects it and a near-miss case that does not (oracle: the table; fails if: wrong layer)P2-6.b[UNI] Relation and window: a failing favicon and a blocked analytics call during a step are background; a 500 from the API the page used for the checked text is related (oracle: the design; fails if: blame by coincidence)P2-6.c[FUN] Real faults from the fault server: document 500, document 404, API 500 behind a page that shows nothing, redirect to a login page, slow response past the timeout (oracle: the status the server sent; fails if: reported as a locator or text problem)P2-6.d[FUN] Real transport faults: connection refused, reset mid-response, timeout to a TEST-NET address (oracle: the fault made; fails if: wrong layer, or reported as http)P2-6.e[FUN] Real name faults: a.invalidname; a local DNS server that answers wrongly, slowly, or not at all while a reference server answers (oracle: the fault made; fails if: blamed on the page or the site instead of the resolver)P2-6.f[FUN] Real TLS faults from a local HTTPS server: expired, wrong host, untrusted CA, and a server whose clock is far from the runner's (oracle: the certificate made; fails if: not named, or the clock not blamed when it is the cause)P2-6.g[FUN] Network path faults insideunshare -rn: no interface, no default route, gateway not answering (oracle: the namespace made; fails if: reported as the site being down). The test reportsskipped: user namespaces are offwhen it cannot run, and CI checks that it canP2-6.h[FUN] The negative case: the page loads at every layer and the wanted text is not on it, so the diagnosis says "no fault found below the page" and lists every layer as ok (oracle: healthy fixture; fails if: a lower layer blamed)P2-6.i[FUN] The converse: the API returns 500 and the page shows an empty balance, so the diagnosis names the 500 and not the locator (oracle: fixture; fails if: UI blamed)P2-6.j[FUN] Page-level faults: a console error, an uncaught exception, a rejected promise, a CORS block, a CSP block (oracle: the page made them; fails if: missing)P2-6.k[FUN] A layer that cannot be checked (noip, no ICMP permission, probes switched off) isnot-checkedwith the reason, and the summary never says "UI" while one is unchecked (oracle: simulated missing tool; fails if: false all-clear)P2-6.l[UNI] Secrets: cookies, Authorization, Set-Cookie and request bodies never reach run.json; a token-looking query value and a token in a failed API body are redacted; the secret scan of a full run.json is clean (oracle: P4-3.f scanner; fails if: any leak)P2-6.m[PRF] Passive recording costs under 5 percent on a 100-request page; the probes stop at the budget; a host that did not appear in the step is never probed (oracle: timing and a probe spy; fails if: overrun, or an unrelated host probed)P2-6.n[FUN]aite diagnoseon the same fault fixtures gives the same layer and wording as the failed run (oracle: same code; fails if: they differ)P2-6.o[REV] A person who did not write the rules reads five generated reports, each with a known cause, and says where the fault is (oracle: the known cause; fails if: misread or "cannot tell")
Exit criteria: all green; one seeded failure per rule shown to fail; P2-6.o answered.
Depends on: P2-2, P2-3. Feeds: P4-1 (report.html), P4-3 (verdicts). Labels: runner, tier-high. See: design/failure-diagnosis.md.
Phase 3: Element descriptors and repair #
2 days. Capture descriptors, resolve with scoring, repair or report drift. Drift must never pass silently.
Done when: A renamed button is found by repair and reported as repaired (text changed), and a low-confidence match fails as drifted.
P3-1: Descriptor capture and the lock file #
On the first successful resolve of a target, capture the full descriptor and write scripts/<area>/<name>.aite.lock.json per docs/design/data-formats.md. Read it on later runs.
Test tier: Medium

P3-1.a[INT] First run creates the lock file with the schema in data-formats.md; a JSON schema validates it (oracle: schema; fails if: missing field)P3-1.b[FUN] Second run reads it; a script without a lock file still runs (oracle: task text; fails if: crash)P3-1.c[PRP] Two runs on an unchanged page produce a byte-identical lock file (oracle: invariant; fails if: churn (timestamps, ordering))P3-1.d[UNI] Lock key is a hash of step name + target source; inserting a step above leaves later entries attached to their own targets; a descriptor whosesourcediffers from the script's target is ignored (oracle: unit; fails if: descriptor applied to the wrong target)
Depends on: P2-3. Labels: runner, extension. See: design/data-formats.md.
P3-2: Resolution order and repair scoring #
Implement exact, descriptor, then repair with the scoring table and outcomes in docs/design/locator-repair.md. Log every repair with old and new descriptor and score.
Test tier: High (a wrong repair makes a script click the wrong thing and pass; this is the silent-false-pass risk in its purest form)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P3-2.a[UNI] Exact target found ->found, no repair (oracle: locator-repair.md; fails if: scoring runs anyway)P3-2.b[UNI] Text changed from "Send" to "Send now", same role/testid ->repaired, score at least 0.85, runner-up at least 0.15 behind (oracle: the scoring table; fails if: outcomefound)P3-2.c[UNI] Button replaced by an unrelated element at the same position -> not repaired (position alone cannot reach 0.85) (oracle: locator-repair.md "own words dominate"; fails if: repaired)P3-2.d[UNI] Score between 0.60 and 0.85 ->drifted, step statusfailed(oracle: outcomes table; fails if: a pass)P3-2.e[UNI] Two candidates within 0.15 ->ambiguous(oracle: outcomes table; fails if: picks one)P3-2.f[UNI] Hidden or disabled candidates are never chosen for actions (oracle: rules; fails if: a click on a hidden node)P3-2.g[PRP] Random mutations of a page (rename, reorder, wrap, restyle): a repaired element is the intended one in at least the cases a human judges equivalent; any ambiguity or low score fails (oracle: property over a labelled corpus; fails if: repairs a wrong element)P3-2.h[REV] (moved to P6-7: it needs real pages from P6-1) A person reviews 10 real repair decisions on real mallbucks pages and marks each right/wrong; any wrong repair at or above 0.85 means the thresholds are wrong (oracle: human judgment (this is the threshold check P3-3 does not do); fails if: one wrong repair)P3-2.i[UNI] Page with 5000 elements: candidates capped at 2000, time under 1 s, resultdriftedornot-foundwith a note (oracle: locator-repair.md note (to add); fails if: hang)
Depends on: P3-1, P3-4. Labels: extension. See: design/locator-repair.md.
P3-3: drift.html fixture and the drift tests #
A fixture whose button text changes between runs. Tests prove repair works for a small change and that a large change fails as drifted instead of passing.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P3-3.a small rename ->
repairedshown in the summary; P3-3.b large change ->drifted, candidate outlined; P3-3.c both are logged with score. Oracle = locator-repair.md; falsified by a pass on the large change.
Depends on: P3-2. Labels: tests. See: design/locator-repair.md.
P3-4: Repair scoring table: make it coherent before using it #
The weights in locator-repair.md sum to 1.20, not 1, and the worked example (text changed, role/tag/surroundings same, no testid) scores about 0.60, which is the drifted band rather than the stated repaired outcome. Fix and normalise before P3-2 is built, and create a held-out corpus.
Test tier: High (a table that cannot reach its own worked example invites tuning to the fixture)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P3-4.a[UNI] Maximum possible score equals 1.0 (weights normalised); a property test over random signal combinations never exceeds 1 (oracle: invariant; fails if: score above 1)P3-4.b[UNI] The worked example inlocator-repair.md(text changed, role/tag/surroundings same, no testid) computes to the stated outcome (oracle: the document; fails if: a different outcome)P3-4.c[UNI] A held-out fixture the thresholds were NOT tuned on: a small rename repairs; an unrelated element at the same position does not reach 0.85 (oracle: held-out corpus; fails if: wrong repair)
Depends on: P3-1. Labels: extension, spec. See: adversarial-review F-03; locator-repair.md; test-plan.md T-P3-4.
P3-5: Freeze mode: unattended runs never write lock files #
A repair that rewrites the lock file in the working copy is reported once and then becomes a normal pass, so a wrong repair is never seen again. Scheduled runs must keep reporting repaired until a human commits the lock change.
Test tier: High (a silent repair becomes baseline and is never reviewed)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P3-5.a[FUN] With--freeze(the default for scheduled runs) a repair is reported asrepairedon every run and the lock file on disk is byte-identical (oracle: file hash; fails if: file changed)P3-5.b[FUN] The same repair is reported again on the next run (it does not becomepassed) (oracle: run.json; fails if:passed)P3-5.c[UNI] A first capture in freeze mode is refused (a script with no lock entry fails with "run once interactively first") (oracle: message; fails if: silent capture)
Depends on: P3-1. Labels: runner, extension. See: adversarial-review F-04; test-plan.md T-P3-5.
Phase 4: Reporting and the confirm loop #
2 days. The report a person reads, and the three verdicts: app is broken, script is out of date, flaky.
Done when: Given only the report, a person correctly says app or script for the broken and the drifted fixtures in under a minute each.
P4-1: Full run.json and the static report.html #
Generate one self-contained HTML file from run.json: each step with its intent, command, status, expected and found, and the screenshot. Failed steps first, passing steps collapsed.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P4-1.a[UNI] Report generated from a fixture run.json contains the intent, wanted, found, screenshot for a failed step, failed steps first (oracle: data-formats.md; fails if: missing field)P4-1.b[INT] run.json validates against a JSON schema; unknown fields rejected (oracle: schema; fails if: drift between writer and report)P4-1.c[PRP] Page text containing<script>, quotes, and</td>appears escaped; the report opens offline and runs no script from page text (oracle: injection invariant; fails if: executed script)
Depends on: P2-2. Labels: report. See: PLAN.md section 4.5.
P4-2: Outline the wanted element or the candidate on the screenshot #
Note from P1-4: the extension cannot capture a screenshot (it would need <all_urls>), and the runner takes it over a debugging pipe. So the outline is either drawn by the extension as a temporary overlay in the page before the runner captures, or drawn by the runner through the same debugging channel; decide here. The old screenshot bridge message with an outline field no longer exists.
The extension draws a box (not injected into the page's DOM permanently) around the resolved element, or around the drifted candidate, before capturing the screenshot.
Test tier: Low (injects into the page; mitigated by removal)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P4-2.a E2E, after a run the page DOM has no leftover outline node (query count = 0) and the page's own CSS is unchanged; falsified by a leftover element.
Depends on: P1-4, P3-2. Labels: extension, report. See: design/protocol.md.
P4-3: The three verdicts: app is broken, script is out of date, flaky #
Verdict buttons in a small local page. App is broken: create a GitLab issue (title, step, expected/found, screenshot, repro command) in the project given by the script's covers/config. Script is out of date: write repairs/<test>-<step>.json for the AI. Flaky: rerun the whole test three times from a clean pre-state and record the pass rate. Verdicts saved as verdicts/*.json.
Test tier: High (automated writes to a live issue tracker with a token; spam and secret-handling risk)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P4-3.a[FUN] "App is broken" creates exactly one issue in a test project with title, step, expected/found, screenshot link, repro command (oracle: GitLab API read-back; fails if: none or two issues)P4-3.b[FUN] "Script out of date" writesrepairs/*.jsonmatching data-formats.md and changes no script file (oracle: schema; git status clean for scripts; fails if: a script edited)P4-3.c[FUN] "Flaky" reruns the whole test three times from a clean pre-state and records the pass rate (oracle: run.json; fails if: one run)P4-3.d[UNI] Issue title/body built from page text is escaped; very long text truncated (oracle: invariant; fails if: broken markdown/limit error)P4-3.e[INT] GitLab API error (401, 500, timeout) -> verdict saved locally, error shown, nothing lost, no retry storm (oracle: behavior; fails if: verdict lost)P4-3.f[ENV] Token only from the env var; never inrun.json, logs, reports or issue text (grep the outputs for the token's prefix) (oracle: secret scan; fails if: token present)P4-3.g[INT] Double click / two browser tabs on the same verdict -> one issue (oracle: idempotency key; fails if: two issues)P4-3.h[REV] A person reviews the issue template: enough to reproduce without aite (oracle: their judgment; fails if: cannot reproduce)P4-3.i[FUN] "Flaky" reruns the whole test from a clean pre-state (or only steps marked idempotent); a step with side effects is never repeated alone; the rate is a signal, the verdict never closes an issue (oracle: run.json; fails if: a send repeated three times)
Manual QA: M-06
Depends on: P4-1, P4-6. Labels: report, runner. See: design/data-formats.md.
P4-4: broken.html fixture and the cold-reader test #
A deliberately broken copy of the fixture page. Run the suite against it and against drift.html. Give the two reports to someone who has not seen aite and time them.
Test tier: Medium (it is the only check of the project's headline claim)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P4-4.a E2E, run on broken.html -> fails at the intended step with the right found text (oracle: the fixture's known defect; falsified by a pass). M-01 is run in P4-7.
Depends on: P4-3, P3-3. Labels: tests. See: PLAN.md section 4.5.
P4-5: Harden the verdict server and unattended issue content #
The local verdict page is an HTTP server that can create GitLab issues with a token. Only the websocket is protected today.
Test tier: High (a local HTTP service holding a GitLab token, reachable by any page in the browser)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P4-5.a[FUN] The server binds 127.0.0.1 only (connect from another interface fails) (oracle: socket test; fails if: reachable externally)P4-5.b[FUN] A request without the per-session token, or with a foreignOrigin/Host, is refused (DNS-rebinding style Host header test) (oracle: HTTP tests; fails if: accepted)P4-5.c[SEC] The token's scope is issue creation only (verified by a call that must fail, e.g. deleting a project) and the target project is private (API read) (oracle: API; fails if: token too broad / public project)P4-5.d[SEC] Unattended issues attach screenshots only when the config opts in; otherwise text only; OAuth-looking URLs are redacted (oracle: issue content; fails if: screenshot attached by default)
Manual QA: M-06
Depends on: P4-3. Labels: report, security. See: adversarial-review F-10; test-plan.md T-P4-5.
P4-6: Throwaway GitLab project for verdict automation tests #
A private test project that every automated verdict test uses, so tests never create issues in a real project.
Test tier: Low
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P4-6.a INT, a project exists, is private, and is used by every automated verdict test (never a real project); falsified by a test creating an issue elsewhere. Exit: P4-3's tests point at it.
Depends on: P0-5. Labels: infra, tests. See: test-plan.md T-P4-6.
P4-7: Cold-reader panel for the report #
The headline claim (a person can tell app from script in under a minute) is checked by one reader on two easy fixtures. Run a proper panel. This task executes M-01.
Test tier: Medium (the project's headline claim; n=1 on easy cases proves nothing)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P4-7.a[MAN] At least 3 readers who have not seen the design judge at least 6 reports (3 app-broken, 3 script-drift, at least 2 ambiguous), answers hidden, timed (oracle: scored answers; fails if: fewer readers or cases)P4-7.b[REV] The pass bar is written before the session (for example 80 percent correct, median under 60 seconds, ambiguous cases scored separately) (oracle: the document; fails if: bar set afterwards)
Manual QA: M-01
Depends on: P4-4. Labels: qa, report. See: adversarial-review F-13; test-plan.md M-01.
Status 2026-10-11: prepared, not held. npm run panel:kit makes the 9 reports from real runs (3 app broken, 3 script out of date, 3 cannot-tell); the protocol, scoring and the pass bar are in docs/qa/cold-reader-panel.md; the results template is docs/qa/cold-reader-results.md. The session needs at least 3 people who have not seen aite's design, so it cannot be done by the author or by an agent.
Phase 5: Real session and test accounts #
1 to 2 days, needs Alex. A persistent signed-in Chrome profile on balrog and dedicated test accounts.
Done when: A script runs signed in as the test account with nobody present, and session-check fails correctly when the saved session is cleared.
P5-1: Launcher for a persistent Chrome profile on balrog #
A script that starts headed Chrome with --user-data-dir, loads the unpacked extension, and sets the bridge token. Needs a display on balrog (a real one or Xvfb).
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P5-1.a[E2E] One command starts headed Chrome with the extension connected (oracle: bridge log "connected"; fails if: no connection)P5-1.b[ENV] After a reboot of balrog, the documented steps bring it back (oracle: the reboot itself; fails if: docs wrong)P5-1.c[INT] Two launchers at once -> second refuses (lock file); profile dir mode is 0700 (oracle:stat; fails if: both run / world-readable)
Depends on: P1-2. Labels: infra. See: PLAN.md section 9.
P5-2: Create the dedicated test accounts and wallet #
Alex creates throwaway Bluesky test accounts (one sender, one recipient) and a testnet wallet for each; signs in once in the profile by hand, including Bluesky's permission screen. Document where the sessions live and who may use them.
Test tier: Medium (external accounts, credentials, public identity)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P5-2.a REV, Alex or a second person reads
docs/accounts.mdand confirms it lists handles only, no passwords/tokens; P5-2.b STA, a secret scan (the repo's CI) finds nothing like an app password or token; P5-2.c INT,curl /lookup?did=returns an address for both. P5-2.d[INT] Five throwaway accounts exist: sender, recipient, claimant (second profile), seller, and a session without the posting permission; the shop script uses the throwaway seller and a fixed test listing, searching by exact handle (oracle:/lookupfor each; listing readable; fails if: scripts still use@distributed.camp)
Manual QA: M-05
Depends on: P5-1. Labels: needs-alex. See: decisions.md D9.
P5-3: session-check script #
A script that opens the app in the profile and verifies it is signed in as the expected account. Fails loudly, with renewal instructions, when the session has expired.
Test tier: Medium (guards against running as the wrong or no account)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P5-3.a[UNI] Expected account X, page shows X -> pass; shows Y -> fail naming both; signed out -> fail with renewal text (oracle: task text; fails if: pass as Y)P5-3.b[E2E] Real profile: pass; then clear the profile's cookies -> fail with the instructions (oracle: observed; fails if: still passes)P5-3.c[PRD] A script withneeds sessionthat omitssession-checkis rejected by the runner (the "every real script starts with it" claim) (oracle: runner; fails if: script runs unchecked)
Depends on: P5-2. Labels: runner. See: design/script-format.md.
P5-4: Session renewal runbook #
Write docs/runbook-sessions.md: how to renew a session, how often to expect it, what to do when OAuth asks for consent again.
Test tier: Low
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P5-4.a MAN, a person who has not done it follows the runbook to renew a session; falsified by a step they cannot do. (Combine with M-02.)
Depends on: P5-3. Labels: docs. See: PLAN.md section 9.
P5-5: Spike: a passphrase wallet signs a testnet payment on balrog with no OS prompt #
The plan assumes the extension runner can use a wallet created with a passphrase backup. Qian's iPhone log shows a passphrase wallet sending with no Face ID prompt; prove it in headed Chrome on balrog.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P5-5.a[E2E] In headed Chrome on balrog, recover the test wallet from its backup and send 1 testnet MALLBUCKS: no OS or passkey prompt appears; the chain shows the transfer (oracle:/transfersand balance; fails if: prompt blocks)
Depends on: P5-1. Labels: spike, infra. See: adversarial-review F-14; test-plan.md T-P5-5.
P5-6: Multi-profile runs (a second signed-in profile in one run) #
The gift journey needs a claimant in a second signed-in profile and the negative variant needs a session without the posting permission. The protocol allows one extension connection per run.
Test tier: High (P6-2 needs a claimant in a second signed-in profile and a third session without the permission)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P5-6.a[INT] Two extension connections in one run, each with a profile name; a step withon:profile-b(the task first saidas:profile-b;as:already names a value) is executed by the right one (oracle: protocol test; fails if: wrong profile acts)P5-6.b[INT] One profile disconnecting mid-run fails only its steps withconnection-lost; the other continues (oracle: protocol test; fails if: whole run hangs)P5-6.c[E2E] Gift flow: profile A creates, profile B claims; each action is attributed in the report (oracle: run.json; fails if: actions attributed to A)
Depends on: P2-3, P5-1. Labels: bridge, extension. See: adversarial-review F-06; test-plan.md T-P5-6.
P5-7: Test-state management: pre-state checks, refill, cleanup, posting cap #
Nightly runs spend MALLBUCKS and publish public posts. Without state management, balances run out, posts pile up, accounts may be limited, and the suite turns red for reasons that are not the app.
Test tier: High (nightly runs drain funds and publish public posts; a depleted or suspended account makes the suite noisy and ignored)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P5-7.a[UNI] A pre-state check below the needed balance fails with reasonpre-state(distinct from an app failure) and names the account and the shortfall (oracle: run.json; fails if: fails as an app bug)P5-7.b[INT] A refill step tops the sender up from the funded wallet to a target; it refuses when the funded wallet is low (oracle: chain read-back; fails if: unbounded refill)P5-7.c[INT] After a gift run the created Bluesky post is deleted and the account's post list equals the list before (oracle: bsky API; fails if: leftover post)P5-7.d[PRD] A cap on posting runs per day; the 11th is skipped with a clear note (oracle: run.json; fails if: unlimited posting)P5-7.e[REV] Bluesky's automation / bot rules are read and any required labelling or limits are followed (note indocs/accounts.md) (oracle: the note; fails if: none read)
Manual QA: M-03
Depends on: P5-3. Labels: runner, infra, security. See: adversarial-review F-05; test-plan.md T-P5-7.
Phase 6: First milestone: mallbucks journeys #
3 to 4 days. Scripts for send, gift and shop against the live product, plus a negative run.
Done when: All three pass on production, the negative run fails at the right step, and Qian confirms the report is clearer than a written test log.
P6-1: Script: send (J-09, J-13) #
Write scripts/mallbucks/send.aite from the send table in docs/journeys.md. Prefer role+name and text targets; propose data-testids in the mallbucks repo where fragile.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-1.a[E2E] Passes on production: review reads "1 MALLBUCKS", balance drops by 1 within 5 s (oracle: journeys.md expected texts; fails if: passes when the review says "1 MUCK" (P6-4))P6-1.b[REV] Eachverifytext is traceable to the spec/QA plan, not copied from the page's current output (oracle: QA plan / journeys.md; fails if: text taken from the page)
Depends on: P5-3, P3-3, P4-3, P6-8, P5-7. Labels: scripts, mallbucks. See: journeys.md.
P6-2: Script: gift (J-36, J-37, J-39, J-40) #
Write scripts/mallbucks/gift.aite including the Share to Bluesky post check and the claim in a second profile, and the negative variant for a session without the posting permission.
Test tier: High (posts publicly to Bluesky from a real account, uses real OAuth, depends on the posting permission)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-2.a[E2E] With the permission: create gift, Share to Bluesky, then read the account's newest post via the public API: text has the gift link as a link feature (oracle: bsky API record; fails if: text-only link (#120 regression))P6-2.b[E2E] Without the permission (second profile): notice with Allow posting shows, no Share button (#131) (oracle: journeys.md; fails if: button shown)P6-2.c[E2E] Claim in a second profile: "A gift from @handle" (not a DID); balance up by 1; second open says already claimed (oracle: journeys.md; fails if: DID shown (#132))P6-2.d[SEC] The test account's posts are cleaned up after each run (delete the created post) and the cleanup is itself checked (oracle: bsky API shows no leftover; fails if: public clutter)
Manual QA: M-03
Depends on: P6-1, P5-6, P5-7. Labels: scripts, mallbucks. See: journeys.md.
P6-3: Script: shop purchase and download (J-24 to J-28) #
Write scripts/mallbucks/shop.aite including the wallet pay pop-up (a second window) and the download check.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-3.a[E2E] Buy now -> checkout shows the item name; pay in the pop-up; "Ready to download" within 2 minutes (oracle: journeys.md; fails if: stays "Waiting for payment")P6-3.b[E2E]switchTabto the pop-up and back; the pop-up closes itself (oracle: journeys.md; fails if: stuck on the wrong tab)P6-3.c[DAT] Downloaded file name and size equal the listing's (read from the seller API) (oracle: listing record; fails if: wrong size)
Depends on: P6-1, P2-5. Labels: scripts, mallbucks. See: journeys.md.
P6-4: Negative run against a deliberately broken build #
Run the three scripts against a build with a known wrong string. Confirm each fails at the right step with the right found text and an outlined screenshot.
Test tier: Medium (it is the proof the tool can fail)
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P6-4.a E2E, against a deliberately broken build each of the three scripts fails at the intended step with the right found text and an outlined screenshot; falsified by a pass or a failure at a different step.
Depends on: P6-1, P6-2, P6-3, P6-6. Labels: tests, mallbucks. See: journeys.md.
P6-5: Qian reviews the reports #
Qian reads a passing and a failing report and judges them against her written test logs.
Test tier: Medium (human oracle for the headline claim)
Acceptance:
Manual QA: M-04
Depends on: P6-4. Labels: qa. See: PLAN.md Phase 6.
P6-6: Mutation harness for deliberately broken builds #
The negative run needs a broken build and no task makes one. A response-rewriting proxy in front of production can change a named string, and the string '1 MUCK' no longer exists in the app.
Test tier: Medium (the negative run proves the scripts can fail)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-6.a[INT] A response-rewriting proxy in front of production changes a named string (for example the review box text) and a fixture check proves the mutation was applied (oracle: fetch through the proxy; fails if: mutation not applied (the negative run would pass for the wrong reason))P6-6.b[REV] One named mutation per script is listed indocs/journeys.mdwith the step it must break (oracle: the document; fails if: a script without a mutation)
Depends on: P5-1. Labels: tests, mallbucks. See: adversarial-review F-08; test-plan.md T-P6-6.
P6-7: Tune the repair thresholds on real mallbucks pages (held-out set) #
The scoring values are starting numbers with no data. Review real repair decisions on real pages.
Test tier: Medium (the thresholds are starting numbers with no data; a wrong repair above 0.85 is a silent false pass)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-7.a[REV] A person marks 10 real repair decisions (real pages, from Phase 6 runs) right or wrong (oracle: human judgment; fails if: any wrong repair at or above 0.85)P6-7.b[UNI] After any threshold change the P3-4 held-out set still passes (oracle: held-out corpus; fails if: held-out case flips)
Depends on: P6-1, P3-4. Labels: extension, qa. See: test-plan.md T-P3-2.h, T-N1.
P6-8: CI guard that flags removed or weakened verify lines in script diffs (must exist before the first AI-written script) #
A CI check on merge requests that fails when a .aite diff removes a verify, loosens its expected text, or raises a timeout, unless the MR carries an explicit label.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
P6-8.a[UNI] Diff removing averify, changing its expected text, or raising its timeout is flagged; a rename of a step name is not (oracle: diff fixtures; fails if: miss)P6-8.b[FUN] In a real MR, the check fails and the explicit label lets it pass (oracle: GitLab; fails if: label ignored)
Depends on: P0-5, P2-1. Labels: infra, tests. See: PLAN.md section 7.3.
Phase 7: Authoring workflow and scheduling #
2 days. Record mode, an authoring command for the AI, scheduled runs, a guard against loosened tests.
Done when: A new journey from the mallbucks QA plan becomes a passing script with no hand-editing beyond approving it.
P7-1: Record mode #
Record clicks, typing and selections in the live page into a draft script (BITE's idea). Step names left as step "TODO name" placeholders that fail to parse until filled.
Test tier: Medium
Acceptance:
Tests:
- P7-1.a UNI, recorded events -> draft script text; placeholders
step "TODO name"fail the parser (E001-style) until named; targets prefer role+name, then text, then testid. Oracle: task text; falsified by a draft that parses unnamed.
Depends on: P6-1. Labels: extension, runner. See: reference/ (recordmanager, eventsmanager).
P7-2: aite author: the AI writes and fixes a script from a journey description #
A command that takes a journey (from qa-journey-test-plan.md), lets the AI write the script, run it, read the report, and repair until green or report a blocker. Follows the rules in PLAN.md section 7.
Test tier: High (an AI loop that writes and repairs tests can weaken them or game them; the project's integrity depends on it)
Acceptance:
Tests:
P7-2.a[INT] Given a journey text and a mock model, the loop produces a script that parses, runs, and stops when green or after N attempts (oracle: task text; fails if: endless loop)P7-2.b[REV] For 5 authored scripts a person checks everyverifyagainst the journey text; any verify not traceable to the journey is a defect (oracle: human judgment; fails if: an invented expectation)P7-2.c[SEC] The loop cannot runcallcode it wrote itself without approval; cannot edit files outsidescripts/(oracle: sandbox test; fails if: file written elsewhere)P7-2.d[PRP] Over N=20 mock-model runs with adversarial outputs (remove a verify, loosen text, raise timeouts), the loop refuses or asks, never silently accepts (oracle: diff guard (P6-8); fails if: accepted weakening)
Manual QA: M-07
Depends on: P7-1, P4-3, P6-8, P7-5. Labels: runner, ai. See: PLAN.md section 7.
P7-3: Scheduled runs and the one-issue-per-script failure policy #
Run after each deploy and nightly on balrog. A failing script opens or updates one GitLab issue (not one per run), with the latest report attached.
Test tier: High (first unattended execution against production; repeated public posts and issue creation)

Tests:
P7-3.a[PRD] Forced failure creates one issue; the next failing run comments on it; a passing run adds nothing (oracle: GitLab read-back; fails if: duplicate issues)P7-3.b[PRD] A kill switch (a file or a variable) stops all scheduled runs within one cycle (oracle: observed; fails if: still runs)P7-3.c[INT] Issue lookup keys by script path, so renaming a script does not orphan the issue (documented behavior) (oracle: task text; fails if: duplicate)P7-3.d[PRD] If the Chrome version changes between runs, the run is flagged "environment changed" in the report (oracle: run.json; fails if: silent)P7-3.e[PRP] Two runs overlapping -> the second refuses (lock) (oracle: lock file; fails if: concurrent runs on one profile)P7-3.f[PRF] A run has a time budget; on exceed it stops and reports (oracle: run.json; fails if: hang)

P7-5: Restrict call to a reviewed allowlist; treat repair context as untrusted #
call runs AI-written TypeScript with the runner's privileges, and page text (including third-party posts) is given to the AI as repair context.
Test tier: High (AI-written code and prompt-injectable page text meet a signed-in profile and a GitLab token)
